Emission free lifting

The use of renewable energy and reducing the use of fossil fuels is nowadays fundamental for sustainable business operations. This is also the case in the world of heavy lifting. Therefore, innovative solutions, like the emission free lifting project below are inevitable.

To comply with the maximum nitrogen emission levels and the ever-increasing demand for “sustainable construction”, more innovative, sustainable solutions for the use of materials and machines are required. After all, operating a standard (crawler) crane means a large consumption of fossil fuels, with a high emission rate. But lifting activities remain crucial during construction. Therefore, the demand for the deployment of sustainable solutions in cranes is increasing more and more.

From Diesel crane to Electric crane

PV-E Crane in Oosterhout, the Netherlands, cleverly responds to this emerging demand and has developed an electric crane based on a diesel crawler crane. To meet the demand PV-E replaced the diesel engine and fuel tank for an electric motor and battery pack. The good basis of the crane made it possible to upgrade the crane to a crane that can compete in the 160 t segment. This of course not without the necessary modifications.

Research had to be done to determine which modifications were needed to upgrade to a 160 t crane. Due to the longstanding relationship between PV-E and Eager.one and the various collaborations in the past, PV-E approached Eager.one to assist in this project.

After a full analysis of the crane, Eager.one made several recommendations to upgrade the crane. As soon as all adjustments had been mapped out, it was possible to start adjusting the various crane parts and making the new 160 t load charts in accordance with the EN13000.

120 load charts

This resulted in a total of approximately 120 load charts that were supplied; for the main boom and the luffing jib, including the different tower angles and luffing jib lengths.

The first PV-E Crane EC160 has now been successfully delivered. And it is currently carrying out lifting works at a construction site somewhere in the Netherlands. A fantastic achievement!

We want to thank PV-E Crane for the trust in Eager.one and the pleasant collaboration in this project. We look forward to our next collaboration.
