Lifting engineering for world’s largest offshore wind farm

In preparation of the installation of the monopiles and transition pieces for the world’s largest offshore wind farm, Eager.one was requested to take care of the lifting engineering activities.

About 89 km off the Yorkshire coast in the UK, the world’s largest offshore wind farm Hornsea Two is being built. This wind farm, owned by Ørsted, contains 165 monopiles and transition pieces that will carry the site’s 8.4 MW turbines. With a height from sea level to blade tip of 204 m, the turbines also feature new 81 m long blades.

In preparation of the installation of the monopiles and transition pieces for this immense offshore wind farm, Eager.one was requested by DEME to take care of the lifting engineering activities.

Lifting engineering for wind farm installation

The lifting engineering activities started with the preparation of the lifting plans for the monopiles and transition pieces. Subsequently, we have created the necessary rigging plans, including the rigging calculations.

While preparing the rigging plans, it turned out that DEME could use existing rigging tools for this project, instead of building new tools. These existing tools were designed and constructed by Eager.one in the past. With some modifications the tools could be used again. From a sustainability point of view we always consider reusing equipment for every rigging plan that we prepare.

After finalizing the lifting and rigging plans, we have also prepared the lifting plans for the mobilization of the vessel.

LOLER inspection

To conclude the project, a LOLER* specialist has carried out a LOLER inspection to ensure that all lifting equipment and documentation is used safely. The inspection turned out that all lifting documentation delivered by Eager.one has been LOLER approved.

* LOLER is the abbreviation for Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations. LOLER is a detailed examination of lifting equipment that is carried out by a competent person. It is mandatory during lifting activities the United Kingdom.

Do you have existing lifting tools and are you curious if they can be reused in your upcoming new projects? Please contact us, we would be happy to advise you on the possibilities!
