Delivering DNV-Certified Transition Piece Lifting Tools for Jumbo Offshore

Successful projects, built through strong collaboration. Every now and then, a project comes along that reminds you how much can be achieved when teams work together towards a common goal. Our collaboration with Jumbo Offshore was one of those projects.

From the first sketches and design reviews to testing, certification, and delivery, both teams worked closely together to develop two DNV-certified Transition Piece Lifting Tools for offshore wind installation. The result is a pair of custom-designed lifting tools focused on safe, efficient, and remotely controlled operations in a demanding offshore environment, delivered within a short timeframe.

A sincere thank you to everyone at Jumbo Offshore who contributed along the way. Your practical insights, professionalism, and collaborative mindset made all the difference.

Transition Piece Lifting Tools for Offshore Wind Installation

A Transition Piece Lifting Tool (TPLT) is used during the installation of transition pieces, the structures that connect offshore wind turbine foundations to the turbine tower. Installing these large components offshore requires controlled lifting, accurate positioning, and minimal personnel exposure in a dynamic marine environment.

To support these operations, we have engineered, manufactured, tested and delivered two DNV certified Transition Piece Lifting Tools, for use by our client Jumbo Offshore.

Safety focus

The tools were developed to enable remote handling and positioning of transition pieces during installation. They are DNV-certified and designed for automated operation, reducing the need for personnel intervention in proximity to suspended loads.

The design incorporates integrated guiding and bumper systems, multiple tugger-line configurations, and camera-based monitoring to support full remotely controlled installation of the transition piece in various lifting orientations. Operation can be performed through wireless remote-control and, as a backup, by cabled and local control units.

Reliability

To increase operational reliability, the tools include full redundancy on hydraulic, electrical, and control systems. The modular configuration and removable guide arrangements allow adaptation to different transition piece geometries and future project requirements.

Turn-Key

The project scope covered the complete process from engineering, fabrication, DNV certification, testing, and delivery. Development was carried out in close cooperation with the project team at Jumbo Offshore, ensuring the tools were aligned with operational and project-specific requirements.

Jumbo Offshore

A shout-out and our appreciation to Jumbo Offshore, our client for this project, for the collaboration throughout the project.
